Ohio Rocket Shout-Outs!
Thursday - Veteran Zakyah Snead, who only began high jumping a month ago, hits a very respectable 4'0" today in the high jump, marking an eight inch improvement over her seeded jump. Lady Rockets 4x400 14-year-old team (pictured above, Rylei Ellis, Shaniyia McCrary, Ayana Thornton, and Sydney Williams) set a Personal Best with a 14 second improvement!
Wednesday - Nine year old Kayla Jefferson competes in the 800M Run and improves her time by 11 seconds, while fellow Rocket Aylessa Carter does the unthinkable and digs deep to run a 2:46 in the 11-year-old division. This is a six second improvement for Aylessa and a significant breakthrough. Mark two more Personal Bests on the board! Actually, make that three, as our girls 4x400 team (pictured above, Aylessa Carter, Shaniya Samuel, Shianne Johnson, and Zakyah Snead) take a 18-second whack off their seeded time. True Ohio Rocket spirit!
Tuesday - Three additional Rockets to report on from Monday! The Bennett sisters visited Ypsilanti to show off their throwing skills, both competing in the Shot Put! Leah and Tashara each did very well and Leah, in fact, ended up with a sweet ranking of 22, with Tashara finishing 26th in her division. Good job girls! High School hurdler Kevin Moore competed in the grueling 400M Hurdle event, with a nice time. Kevin returned to the track on Tuesday for the 100M Hurdle sprints and will alco be competing in the 400M Dash later this week. On Tuesday, our sprint squad took to the track. In the 400M, Johnathan Hurst (8-U boys) finished 17th out of 84 contestants, winning his heat and improving his time yet again to 1:11. Showboats Luxarrie Floyd and Ahtiona Carter BOTH dipped under 30 seconds again. Ahtiona proved that 29 seconds is her comfort zone (VERY good for 11) and Luxarrie ran her head off and landed 29.14. Well done girls, Ohio is proud of you. Shemar Samuel hits mid-26s with his efforts in the 200M, landing 20 spots ahead of where he was seeded to be. Good job to all!
Monday - Congratulations to Shianne Johnson, who ran a personal best in the 100M dash with 14.35. Luxarrie Floyd hits her mark with a nice 14.20. Ahtiona Carter races today and gets herself a 14.6, while Shemar Samuel ties his Personal Best in the 100M. Johnathan Hurst races today in the 8-U division placing 35th in a HIGHLY competitive race with over 85 entries! Zakyah Snead jumps in the Long Jump in the 12 Year Old division, rounding out Monday. Tune in tomorrow for another update!
